This work examines our evolving notions of technology's role in everyday communication and reconciles them with our preexisting framework of in-person communication. It also experiments with the different forms of an interface between us and automated objects. As an exploration leading into my thesis, this investigates empathy and intimacy in communication through physical contact. Articulated leftovers encourages conversation between humans and speaking digital objects.
